“THE MOST IMPORTANT RECYCLING MESSAGE I SHARE WITH CHILDREN IS THAT WE HAVE ONLY ONE EARTH. WE MUST TAKE CARE OF OUR PLANET, AND EACH CHILD CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.” – Bob Miller
There’s a superhero living in Columbus, Ohio. By day, Bob Miller is a member of the sales team at Byers Subaru. When inspiration calls, his alter ego “Captain Recycle” teaches schoolchildren to become good environmental stewards. Dressed in a futuristic green suit, Captain Recycle captivates his young audiences and encourages them to practice the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Captain Recycle hasn’t quite mastered the art of flight, so Miller relies on his 1999 Subaru Legacy Wagon for transport. “My Subaru is the ultimate Captain Recycle tour vehicle,” he said. “I know that no matter what Mother Nature dishes out – rain or snow – I will get to my destination. I also love the fact that Subaru manufactures the best-rated cars for total emission control in its zero-waste facility.”
Captain Recycle is not alone in his mission to promote good habits. In 1979, Miller created his business, Millrow Characters, to help educate students on topics not typically part of traditional school curricula. Eddie Eyeglasses, Tommy Toothbrush, and Billie Book join Captain Recycle as classroom favorites.
“Educational entertainment really gets the message across,” Miller said. “Our subject matter ranges from dental hygiene to quality eye care, automobile safety to environmental health, and more.”
Miller’s love for the Subaru brand is like his passion for enhancing the lives of children. He’s owned seven Subaru vehicles with combined odometer readings of more than one million miles.
