For the 2003 model year, Subaru developed a Special Edition Package for the Legacy L; it offers a remarkable amount of luxury at a great price. Open a Special Edition Package Legacy with its remote keyless entry system, and inside youll find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle, as well as elegant, woodgrain-patterned interior trim. Outside youll find great-looking 16-inch alloy wheels wearing 205/55-series all-season tires, projector-beam fog lights and body-color mirrors, door handles and body-side moldings. Sedan models include a power moonroof and wagon models include dual power moonroofs. Other notable features, such as cruise control, CD audio system (with in-glass antenna) and air conditioning, will make you and your passengers comfortable as the miles roll by.
Through careful research and customer feedback, Subaru compiled this long list of frequently ordered options and accessories and assembled them into the Special Edition Package. The package offers tremendous luxury and convenience at a tremendously attractive price.
Driven By Whats Inside
Like all Legacy models, the Special Edition L is powered by the renowned Subaru horizontally opposed, 16-valve four-cylinder boxer engine. Thanks to its sequential multiport fuel-injection system and distributorless electronic ignition system, power delivery is immediate, progressive and exceptionally smooth. Fuel economy is outstanding, too. Standard five-speed manual-transmission models deliver 21 mpg (city) and 27 mpg (highway); models with the optional four-speed automatic transmission deliver 22 mpg (city) and 29 mpg (highway).
Subaru transmission innovations help the Subaru All-Wheel Drive system make the most of the powerful Legacy engine. The companys experience in rally competition has led to a five-speed manual transmission thats positive, easy to shift and extremely durable. The vehicles All-Wheel Drive components have been carefully tailored to the type of transmission theyll be working with. On a manual-transmission Legacy, a viscous-coupling locking center differential provides power to the front and rear wheels. On a Legacy equipped with the optional automatic transmission, the transmission control module constantly controls the variable transfer clutch to provide maximum traction on all road surfaces power is transferred from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip. And as passenger safety is a paramount concern at Subaru, the Legacy is equipped with a state-of-the-art four-channel/four-sensor antilock braking system (ABS). The full selection of Legacy paint colors are available with the Special Edition Package.
