Refocusing its support of motor sports in the United States, Subaru of America has withdrawn its factory team from competition in the 2004 SCCA ProRally Championship Series. Tim Bennett, director of marketing programs, Subaru of America, Inc. cited "lack of manufacturer competition within the Open Class category for 2004" as the reason for the factory team's withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Subaru has added to its support of Subaru privateer teams through increased contingency funds and on-site parts through the new Subaru Rally Support Program. Subaru also contributes to the SCCA Partnership Bonus Program and remains the largest official contingency sponsor of the championship.
