Through its Share the Love event at the end of 2009, Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) donated $250 for every new vehicle sold or leased. At the end of the event, SOA split a total of $5,000,000 among the event’s five charity partners based on the customers’ selections.
In addition, Subaru employees across the country were given time off to volunteer with one of the partners. Here are examples of employee volunteer work.
SUBARU BUILD DAY
Approximately 20 Subaru team members from the Los Angeles, California, district team and marketing partners supported Habitat for Humanity®, helping construct a multifamily building in Lynwood (Los Angeles County). These homes are the first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified in Lynwood.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Subaru employees volunteered with Meals on Wheels by preparing and packaging meals for delivery, and then helping with lunch at the Klein and Stiffel JCCs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. “Corporations like Subaru are leaders in the for-profit industry showing other for-profit organizations how they can be good community partners by giving back time and money to help those less fortunate in the community,” commented Raechel Hammer, chief operating officer for strategic development, compliance and senior services for the Klein and Stiffel JCCs.
HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE
Along with the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club, Subaru hosted a toy drive and party. The collected toys were given out at the party to more than 140 youths from the Boys & Girls Club.
Subaru hosted The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) and the National Wildlife Federation® (NWF) at Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier® in Chicago, Illinois. A behavior expert was on hand to answer questions about pet behavior, and the NWF had a screech owl on display.
