“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
For Subaru Owner Sharon Silver, Gandhi’s words are a way of life. “I’ve been a social studies and conflict resolution strategies teacher in Philadelphia for many years,” Sharon said. “I’ve always been interested in history and people and, in particular, issues involving justice and peace.”
Sharon recently followed her dream to inspire, motivate and empower others by co-writing and co-producing a music CD entitled Revolution of the Spirit. She uses the songs to encourage her students to interact with their concepts.
“I wanted to find a more interesting, creative way to bring history and philosophy to life,” she said. “I called my cousin, Daniel Sembello, who is a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer in LA. We talked about the possibilities, and I started flying out to LA to work on the CD. We’ve been extremely fortunate to have worked with some of the greatest musicians in the world.”
The project took several years to research, write and record. The resulting 10 songs are dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Jane Addams, Sojourner Truth, Socrates, Henry David Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy, Cesar Chavez and others. Desmond Tutu even added his voice to the song that honors those who dedicated their lives to end apartheid in South Africa.
Sharon purchased a 2000 Subaru Forester in 1999 after a one-year sabbatical traveling in Asia. Why a Subaru? “Peace of mind,” she said. “I’m constantly on the go, and I feel safe knowing I’m traveling in a car that is reliable and trustworthy.”
