The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has a new strength rating system for consumers to use when choosing vehicles that will help protect them in rollover crashes. In this new IIHS roof strength test, Subaru Forester earned the top rating. To earn the top (Good) rating, Forester withstood a force of four times its weight before crushing five inches. This means that the Forester roof is more than twice as strong as required by minimum federal safety standards.
IIHS President Adrian Lund commented, Its not surprising that Subaru earns good ratings in our new roof test because this automaker was among the first to ace our front and side tests.
