SUBARU LEGACY NAMED OFFICIAL VEHICLE OF STREETSAFE DRIVING ACADEMY
The goal of the StreetSafe Driving Academy (located in Bryn Mawr and Blue Bell, Pennsylvania) is to teach safe driving skills to new drivers. SOA sponsors the academy, which has made the Subaru Legacy its official vehicle.
StreetSafe utilizes off-duty police officers as coaches for its customized training programs. Participants receive private, behind-the-wheel instruction, as well as training in simulators. For more about the academy and its programs, visit www.streetsafedriving.com.
PILOTS N PAWS HELPS ANIMALS IN NEED
Pilots N Paws is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that helps animals in need. The organization is comprised of general aviation pilots working together with rescue volunteers and shelters to relocate the animals. AAAS/SUBARU SCIENCE BOOKS & FILM COMPETITION
SOA and partner American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) sponsored the annual AAAS/Subaru Science Books & Film competition. Awards for 2010 were handed out at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, in mid-February. Recipients included:
- Living Sunlight: How Plants Bring the Earth to Life, by Molly Bang and Dr. Penny Chisholm – Children’s Science Picture Book category
- The Frog Scientist, by Pamela S. Turner – Middle Grades Science Book category
- Invisible Kingdom: From the Tips of Our Fingers to the Tops of Our Trash, Inside the Curious World of Microbes, by Idah Ben-Barak – Young Adult Science Book category
- Author Robert Gardner – Lifetime Achievement in Hands-on Science Writing
