Perkins Center for the Arts

The Perkins Center for the Arts is a regional community arts center serving southern New Jersey. The center is dedicated to arts excellence and to providing creative opportunities for people of all ages and every artistic level. Programs include visual and performing arts classes, lessons, exhibitions, performances, family concert series, workshops, and outreach programs in the southern New Jersey region.

The center’s main facility is in Moorestown, New Jersey, with a newly acquired facility in Collingswood, New Jersey. The new facility provides space for large-scale artwork and art-making projects and allows the center to expand the current reach of its programs. “We wanted more space to continue to expand programs in visual and performing arts,” revealed Alan Willoughby, executive director for the Perkins Center for the Arts.

The Subaru of America Foundation has provided the Perkins Center’s Collingswood facility with a three-year grant for renovations. The plan for this new center is to make it a “green” building via energy conservation, recycling materials, and thoroughly insulating the building.

“Subaru is a great example of what other companies and corporations can aspire to because they’ve always had a strong commitment, involvement, and connection to various nonprofits in the community,” proclaimed Willoughby.

The Perkins Center creates many unique outreach opportunities, including Arts Reaching the Students, which provides eight to 20 day artists residencies in 23 southern New Jersey schools. The center also supports community-based programs that focus on the needs of youth in Camden City, New Jersey, with scholarships for a summer arts camp as well as mural and community garden projects for neighborhoods.
